New plans after Covid lockdowns.

For the past few months, we’ve been working hard at getting Solveig ready for our upcoming trip, to the Bahamas and beyond.

We’ve been talking about this trip for some time now (ever since our return from the Bahamas in 2015), but now it is becoming a reality and the departure date set for mid-July, is approaching fast.

 

On May 26^th Solveig will be launched. Before moving to our temporary location at East River Marina, a thorough check will then be done to ensure we have no leaks. Once on the dock at ERM, we will have the electrician complete a check of the electrical systems and install a 3^rd solar panel. We also will, while on the dock, start provisioning and getting the rest of our belongings onto Solveig.

 

Over the last few weeks, we’ve painted on a barrier coat (International Interguard), followed by 3 coats of International Interspeed bottom paint. 

 

                 

                 

The barrier coat was quite a task as the paint is the same consistency as toothpaste, while the bottom paint went on easily. With a good compounding and wax job, and Solveig almost looks like a new boat.

 

                      

                

During the last few days, a little robin decided to build a nest in the pilot seat. At first, I wasn’t sure how long the nest had been there but 3 days ago, I saw that there we’re 2 beautiful little blue eggs in the nest. Trying not to upset mama too much, we moved the nest and eggs onto the bow of a derelict boat, directly behind Solveig…. we both hope she finds her eggs and hatches them soon…...unfortunately we could not wait for the hatchlings to appear because of the imminent launching.
